Transport unions of Assam, Manipur, Nagaland form ‘umbrella body’
DIMAPUR, March 13 (MExN): Representatives from seven major motor land transport unions of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland held a meeting on Saturday, March 13. The menace of illegal taxation plaguing transporters plying along NH 39 was one of the main topics of discussion in the meeting, besides the welfare and security of the transporters. It was held at the Tourist Lodge, Dimapur.
The member executives decided to form an “umbrella organisation” to combat and tackle illegal taxation meted out on transporters, especially along the all important route - NH 39.
Executives representing Bokajan Truck Owners’ Association, Manipur Drivers’ Welfare Association, Manipur Truck Owners’ Welfare Association, Kohima District Land Transport Trade Union, All Manipur Petroleum Tankers’ Drivers’ Union, All Manipur Inter-State Bus Association, Assam Motor Workers’ Union, Karbi Anglong (Bokajan Sub-division) and Dimapur Motor Workers’ Trade Union (DMWTU) attended the meet.
DMWTU was led by its president Ghoshito, who presided over the meeting and its secretary Shikito.
In line with the agenda discussed the meeting unanimously brought about a decision to form a collective body under the banner of ‘ad-hoc coordination committee owners, drivers and motor workers union’. The committee will function and coordinate for the welfare of its members.
Its will have its temporary correspondence office at Dimapur Motor Workers Trade Union in Dimapur.
