Officers demand fair play for School Education chair
Dimapur, March 18 (MExN): School Education administrative officers, school teachers, and senior officers of the department have in a joint representation to the Chief Secretary of Nagaland stated: “It is learnt from a reliable source that the present Director of School Education is under scanner for removal from the department and to be replaced by another officer from other department.”
In the representation, several education officers and teachers’ organisations, however, made clear that if any officer, including the Director, is ‘proven guilty’, he should be penalised. Otherwise, the department’s officers and members stated, they would “not remain silent spectators” in case action was taken on any officer without proof of guilt. The joint representation was appended by the Nagaland School Education Administrative Officers’ Association, All Nagaland School Teachers’ Association, Nagaland Government Higher Secondary School Officers’ Association and two subordinate Directors of the department.
The organisations took note of information received by them that the present Director of School Education is “under scanner for removal” from the department. The representation took cognisance that he would be replaced by an officer from another department.
“In the event of this development, we would like to know the officer concerned proven guilty and charge-sheeted if liable to be punished,” the associations stated. “In this connection, we always welcome any action taken against any officer in the department including the Director if found guilty, deemed fit to be punished but otherwise we will not remain silent spectators if and when government picks and choose any officer(s) for any action to be taken, without being proven guilty.”
The associations also stated to the Chief Secretary that the present Director and all his subordinate officers have been extending full cooperation to the Special Investigation Team of the Vigilance Commission. This cooperation would continue to be rendered, the associations assured. However, the organisations made clear that guilt must be proven first before any other step can be taken.
Further, the associations stated that only cadres under the School Education department must hold the post of Director of department accordingly with the service rules. “No other officer from other department shall be accepted to head the department,” the teachers and officers of the department stated. The associations The requested the Chief Secretary to look into the matter explained in the representation and review the decision in question if already taken.
