Naga music goes Globe-Wide Web
Kohima | September 27 : For music lovers across the globe, it is just a click away not only to browse profiles of talented Naga musicians but also watch and listen to their musical performances. The Naga Music Online or NMO www.nagamusiconline.com dedicated to promoting Naga musicians and their music was formally launched by Dr. Nicky Kire, chairman of the NKVIB in a simple function held at the Dream Café here today afternoon. With the launch of the website, rich musical talents of the Naga spectrum will be up for global audience.
The website is the brainchild of a group of Naga musicians, with Akum Jamir and Moa as the management and marketing chief while Boibo and Yanger are the design team. The website is aimed at showcasing and ‘outsourcing’ Naga musicians, said Moa, the marketing chief of NMO. The website consists of an amalgamation of Naga music genres, he informed, and pointed to encouraging original output as the Nagas generally lacks in originality.
Popular musician Theja Meru also hoped that through the website, people from across the globe will know the Naga musician. He also disclosed that the sponsorship for the earlier Rattle and Hum guitar contest from the Gibson came through the website.
Dr. Nicky Kire in his brief address termed the venture as a humble yet novel initiative and congratulated the initiators saying that the website would not only boost a place for a music industry and the Naga musician but also showcase the identity of the people to the outside world. ‘People do not take us as Indians and even Indian them-selves don’t,’ he said. To buttress his perspective, Dr. Kire drew an analogy saying that years ago, when Nagas visited western and southern parts of India, the first thing people sought was the passport. ‘Similarly, foreigners don’t believe when we say we are Indian’, he added.
