Youth Initiative for Peace and Development Launched in Nagaland



Dimapur, February 16 (MExN): Youth Initiative for publicity of message of Development and Peace in Nagaland under the aegis of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Nagaland was launched on February 16, 2012 by Vikho-o Yhoshü, MLA and Advisor IT & C, Govt. of Nagaland on February 16, 2012 at Horti-Exhibition Hall, Naga Heritage village, Kisama. Around 150 youths from various districts of Nagaland and youth volunteers were present during the launching programme.
The Govt. of India is sponsoring this youth initiative for peace and development in certain districts of North Eastern states like Assam (10 Districts), Nagaland (7 Districts), Mizoram (3 districts), Arunachal Pradesh (4 Districts) and Manipur (9 districts).
Chief Guest, Vikho-o Yhoshü, MLA expressed his happiness in associating with NYKS in various programmes and launching another noble project by NYKS, Nagaland. He called upon the youth of Nagaland to be pro-active to peace and development so as to bring about faster pace of development in the region. He stated that under the initiative of Chief Minister, Neiphi-u Rio, Govt. of Nagaland has started “ Year of Youth Empowerment” and “ Year of Entrepreneurship” which are very good avenues for the youth of the state to forge forward. He asked the youth to make good use these opportunities to build peace, livelihood and employment.
K.I. Singh, Zonal Director, gave the keynote address stated that  Youth initiative for peace and development lay emphasis on the development programmes of the Govt. Nagaland will have 80 Nehru Yuva Corps in 38 Blocks of 7 Districts viz, Kohima, Mokokchung, Mon, Zunheboto, Tuensang, Phek and Wokha. All together 1006 villages will be selected under this project.
The project aims at creating an enabling environment among the youth to enhance their employability and social security through various programs initiated by the Govt. at the local level. The projects will encompass, state, district, block and village levels programmes to meet the objectives.
The project is being implemented by NYKS for the first time in Nagaland. It is envisaged that the project will give benefit to the youths of the State by participating directly and involving themselves in the peace and development initiatives. The success of the project will depend largely on the concerted effort of the NYK functionaries in the State and District level and overwhelming support of the State Government.  
The Chief Guest during the programme distributed sports materials to all the Youth Clubs present which were affiliated to NYK, Kohima. He also gave away State Level Best Youth Leaders award 2011-12 to Vimhaseo George Richa and Asano Zashü with cash award of Rs. 15,000/- and a citation each.
The programme was chaired by Ruokuovikho Chale and welcome address was given by John Makhabo, DYC, Kohima and while vote of thanks was extended by participants Jemtimemba of Mokokchung District.
