Best reporting on Dams and Development Award



DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 19 (MExN): Panos Institute South Asia’s RELAY programme invites submission of writings from working journalist for its Best reporting on Dams and Development Award competition.  This award is only for print media journalists based in Northeast India, informed a press note from Arup Jyoti Das Programme Manager (Northeast India) Panos South Asia.
The award aims to encourage quality reporting in the Northeast region. Applicants may submit up to three writings (1000 to 1500 words approximately) published during the period of January 2011 to January 2012. Subject of the Writings has to be Dams and Development in Northeast India. Writings submitted for the competition should be based on research and field studies. Articles, reporting, opinion, analysis, news story and features are eligible for entries. This award is open for both English and vernacular languages. Vernacular submission should accompany English translation of the writings.
 
Writings published in News Papers, Periodicals, weeklies from Northeast India are eligible for the competition. Photo copies or scanned will be accepted for entries if text are readable. In case, the writings does not bear author’s name (i.e. Staff reporter etc), a letter from the Editor of the publishing house stating the applicant is the reporter/author of the submitted piece should also be furnished. Last date for the submission of writings is 5th March, 2012.
The Panos Institute South Asia’s RELAY programme aims to contribute to quality media coverage on important social and economic issues in the region.  The current focus is on dams and development in the Northeast.  In 2011, it has completed a fellowship programme on Dams and Development, where six journalists were selected to report research on Dams and Development.
 
The present Best reporting on Dams and Development Award aims to encourage those journalist who has done excellence in reporting research on Dam issue, outside the RELAY fellowship programme. Therefore, Panos Institute South Asia’s RELAY fellows are not eligible to apply for this competition. There will be a separate award for Panos Institute South Asia’s RELAY Fellow to felicitate the best fellow who has carried out the issue beyond fellowship programme and period. Both the Award will be given in mid of March in a Round table Seminar on Dams and Development to be organized by Panos Institute South Asia  in Guwahati. The awards will be of monetary value.
