‘Boundary Committee’s remark is absurd’
AIZAWL, December 11: Former chief minister and Mizo National Front (MNF) president, Zoramthanga said that the Mizoram Boundary Committee’s remark that the Assam-Mizoram boundary, demarcated during the time of Laldenga (L) as too small, is absurd.
While talking at the induction program of new members joining MNF at Mizo Hnam Run yesterday, Zoramthanga said, "The boundary demarcated during the time of District Council (the then Mizoram status prior to Union territory status) is still in effect even after Mizoram attained statehood. Therefore, there was no new demarcation as such during the time of Laldenga.”
The MNF president also said that in the agreement between MNF and the Central government, the former did not accept the present boundary of Mizoram. "In 2006 with all the Mizoram political parties and representatives of NGOs we submitted a joint memorandum to the Prime Minister; and based on that memorandum is the position where MNF stands regarding the boundary issue,” Zoramthanga said.
In the meantime, Zoram National Party (ZNP) vice president, K Liantlinga said that regarding the Mizoram and Assam boundary, if the Mizoram Boundary Committee finds fault with the Mizos, then ZNP cannot be part of the Boundary Committee.
