KOHIMA, OCTOBER 16 (MExN): The Department of Horticulture organised a one-day training on cultivation of mushroom at Capital Convention Centre Kohima on October 15. 


Director, Horticulture Dr. R ElithungLotha in his keynote address said that the Department of Horticulture is now trying to develop different types of fruits, vegetables, plantation, aromatic and medicines in the state, informed a DIPR report. 


Every year the Department conducts training on mushroom cultivation for income generation and urged the trainees to make the best use of what they have learned from the training and impart the same to others thus benefiting the people.  


He mentioned that the Department is also working to make the State healthy and called upon the farmers to work hard towards increasing their products and work hand in hand with the Department.  The Director also launched the Horticulture bulletin, bi- annual publication of the Nagaland State Horticulture Department.


Resource person Deputy Director Horticulture, Meyasashi Longkumer spoke on low cost cultivation of Oyster Mushroom and Dr Sosang Longkumer, Senior Scientific Officer, Alon Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society Limited, Nagaland on Shiitake Mushroom. Altogether 190 trainees participated in the training.
