Campaigning period for LS polls in Nagaland ends 4pm, April 17

Kohima, April 15 (MExN):  The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nagaland Vyasan R has notified that the campaigning period for General Election to the 18th Lok Sabha, 2024 for Nagaland Parliamentary Constituency will end at 4 PM on April 17.

After the end of the deadline, no person shall “convene, hold, attend, join or address any public meeting or procession in connection with an election,” the notification stated.

Display to the public any election matter by means of cinematograph, television or other similar apparatus are also restricted.

Further no person is allowed to propagate any election matter to the public by holding, or by arranging any musical concert or any theatrical performance or any other entertainment or amusement with a view to attracting the public, it added.

As per the State DIPR, the notification cautioned that any person violating the directives would be “punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both.”

After the deadline, no campaign can take place within the constituency, it said.

Political functionaries and party workers from outside or non-voters from a particular constituency should not remain present in the constituency as their continued presence after end of the Campaign period may undermine the atmosphere for free and fair poll, it added.

The District Election Administration or Police Administration shall ensure that all political functionaries leave the constituency immediately after the campaign period deadline, the CEO directed.

The restriction may not be insisted upon those office bearers of political parties who are in-charge of the State, it added.

However, they shall declare their place of stay in the State Headquarters and their movement during the period in question shall remain confined normally to party office and place of stay, it added.
