Excise Narcotics Cell seizes opium & heroin worth 4 lakhs

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 19 (MExN): The Narcotic Cell of the Excise department, Nagaland seized 500 grams of opium powder from a vehicle at the Inter-State Excise check post in Khuzama, Kohima on November 18.


A press release from the Deputy Commissioner of Excise (Narcotic Cell), S Chanlei Angh informed that the vehicle, a Maruti Alto, was intercepted by Excise Narcotic Cell personnel based on “intelligence inputs.” One person identified as Ranjan Kumar Gupta (32 years) was arrested and booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and further investigation was on. The drug was found concealed on the person’s body, the release said. 


In another incident, the Excise Narcotic Cell personnel confiscated heroin weighing around 20gm from a woman in the Signal Basti area, Dimapur on November 19. The woman (name withheld) was arrested from her residence and the contraband confiscated. She was booked under the NDPS Act and investigation was on. The total street value of the seized drugs was estimated to be Rs 4 lakhs.


The Excise Narcotic Cell personnel, who affected the arrests, consisted of AIEs Nokcha Ao and Chuba Yimchunger, head constables Tovika, Burtemshi, Sutsung, Anglong and constables Merila, Mungnyu, Khumeng, Aienla, Vitsathrong, Khrielie, Chumben and Zhegukha.
