The Sangyochung Range Students’ Union (SRSU) during a routine inspection of schools in their range on February 12 last found out that the Headmaster and Assistant Headmaster in Government High School (GHS)Ngoungchung in Tuensang district have not been posted for over 4 years.

“We did a spot verification on February 12 and held a thorough deliberation in the presence of teaching faculty and SMDCs and found out that for the past 4 to 5 years a Headmaster and Assistant Headmaster have not been posted in GHS Ngoungchung and it has badly affected the HSLC results. The school has produced nil results for the past 3 years continuously,” one of the SRSU officials informed this newspaper during an interaction held in Tuensang on February 19.

The student body had appealed to the Government of Nagaland in 2019 for the posting of Headmaster and Assistant Headmaster, it informed.

“We also blame the concerned department for the sorry state of our school results because of their lackadaisical attitude and keeping our appeal in a lukewarm state. We further appeal the concern department to immediately send a HM and an AHM in order to save the future generation of the downtrodden backward class of our state,” the union official added.

“The school building is also in a deteriorating state.  We learnt that the school renovation funds have been released by the government but the contractors are not utilising the fund to the optimum level,” another official stated.

Since the month of November 2020, a group of 7 to 8 teachers with timely help from the community started providing free coaching classes, food and accommodation to the HSLC appearing students.

The daily routine of studying, guiding and classes starts at 6:00 am till 9:00 pm. The SRSU officials also gave few commodities to the students during their recent visit. “SRSU expresses our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the dedicated teachers who have shown the utmost care and concern for our students,” the official stated.

Erring teachers asked to report to duty within 7 days
Meanwhile, during the verification, SRSU also found out that, two Graduate teachers (General and English) have not come to the posting place since their appointment. In this regard they have also appealed the concerned teachers time and again to come for teaching, the Union said.

“Even after submitting a complaint letter to the District Education Officer the teachers have not turned up. The DEO office has also failed in taking an appropriate action. Those 2 teachers are murdering the career of our students for the past 7 years and thus we will not remain silent for this matter anymore. Therefore, we are giving this notice of 7 days w.e.f from the publishing of this statement to reach the posting place failing which the SRSU will give befitting punishment for tarnishing the future generation of our society,” the statement added.
