VIT celebrates University Day

Chennai, April 14 (MExN): The University Day was celebrated in VIT Chennai with Justice Sunder Mohan, Judge, High Court of Madras, as the chief guest and C Damodaran, a VIT alumni and Joint Director at the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs as the guest of honour, 

Presiding over the event, Founder - Chancellor of VIT, Dr G Viswanathan highlighted India's need to address higher education disparities.

He pointed out those countries like South Korea and Australia, where government-sponsored education ensures full enrolment, a VIT release informed. 

To this end, he urged for increased government investment, citing the current 2.9 percent GDP allocation. 

Dr Viswanathan also addressed issues like corruption and tax evasion as hindrances to India's development.

He also emphasised VIT's meritocratic ethos, urging students to embody integrity, excellence, and personal accountability, the release said. 

In his address, Justice Mohan stressed on integrity, accountability, proactive goal-setting and seizing opportunities and urged students to embrace these principles for personal and professional success,

Damodaran, meanwhile, highlighted youth's pivotal role in India's future and urged them to shun negative habits and focus on meaningful contributions to the nation's development.      

Dr Sekar Viswanathan, Vice President of VIT also emphasised hard work and Smart Work for students’ success.

The celebration also honoured top-performing students in academics, sports, and attendance with prizes totalling Rs 60 lakh.
