The volume of water storage at Nagaland’s sole water reservoir, amid the last leg of Southwest Monsoon, is much lower than both last year as well as annual 10-year average, as per the Central Water Commission (CWC).

As of August 26, volume of water storage at Doyang Hydro Electric Plant was 0.22 billion cubic metres (BCM), as per the CWC’s weekly ‘Live storage status of 130 important reservoirs of the country’ bulletin released on Friday.

This is a -36% departure from the normal average of last 10 years, it said. The Doyang HEP averaged around 0.36 BCM during the last 10 years. In 2020, the reservoir averaged 0.37 BCM against total live storage capacity of 0.54 BCM.

Across the country, the bulletin informed that at 108.58 CBM, the All-India volume was -4% departure from the 10-year average.

“The overall storage position is less than the corresponding period of last year in the country as a whole and is also less than the average storage of last ten years during the corresponding period,” it added.
