DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 3 (MExN): The Nagaland State unit of the BJP today stated that allegations of the Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister, Y Patton stating that he could “manipulate” the NPSC interview process “holds no water.”

A press release from the BJP Nagaland general secretary, P Kavili Achumi termed the allegations as “a futile attempt by fame mongers to malign the office of the BJP and its leadership.”

It said that the Deputy CM had “always stood for fairness and meritocracy in the whole process of examination system.”

“He was instrumental for curtailment of NPSC viva marks from 75 to 55. It may be put on record that, during the Winter of 2017 when the public under the banner of Public Coordination Committee (PCC) was staging indefinite strike against corruption and injustice in the state, at a marathon meeting held at the ‘House of Hope’ between representatives of PCC and state Cabinet, Y Patton alone stood against appointment of NPSC members from non-civil service background and random marking in NPSC viva-voce,” the BJP claimed.

The party further said that the Deputy CM during his speech at the LSU general conference had rather “challenged Lotha students' community to clear UPSC & NPSC exams on merit basis and even placed a reward for meritorious students.”

On the origins of the controversy regarding the Deputy CM’s speech, the Nagaland BJP called upon the concerned authority to investigate a former student leader who had written to the Governor urging action against the Deputy CM for his alleged remarks.

The BJP claimed that the individual, Vicca S Aye, former president of the Highway Area Sumi Student’s Union, Dimapur, is a Vice-President of the NDPP Central Youth Wing and accused him of “waging communal politics and hate campaign against BJP and its leaders, both at the centre and state.”

The BJP Nagaland stated that it would “no longer tolerate such malicious statements and political conspiracies but shall take stern action against the defaulter.”
