Call for strict implementation of EIA

Dimapur, July 4 (MExN): Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) should be implemented strictly for the sustainability of the people and the ecosystem, Green Succession of Nagaland State (Green-SONS) stated today while acknowledging the concern government and people of the state on the application of Article 371A.
Green-SONS, chairman Jess T Murry in a press communiqué said that the application of Article 371A in any part of the state or in Changpang Oil Filed for exploration of crude oil or development of any mega projects with mere determination to uplift the economy of the State through royalty income or land compensation without making thorough environmental assessment could result in the degradation of the environment and loss of bio-diversity and displacement of the local populace. Therefore, the organisation strongly feels that EIA should be implemented strictly.
Meanwhile, the organisation while recollecting, the failure of the ONGC and the erstwhile state government in the oil exploration and denial of equity to the land owners of Changpang area and the subsequent ecological imbalance of the area, appraise the sub-committee of the State government for exploration of oil and mineral resource to seriously view for restoration for better environment and ecological balance in the area and aim for sustainability of the environment in the future course of any mega project implementation in the state.
