Complaint on antique drainage

Through the column of your esteemed daily, I on behalf of the residents of Churches Colony, Dimapur, would like to draw the attention of the concerned authority, and would also like to place forth the grievance faced by some of the members ever since waiting and hoping, for the fuels of our patience has run out.

Our colony is situated at Circular Road (City Tower) under Ward No. 21 and under 2 Dimapur- II A/C. Of late it has been observed that our colony has been ignored of welfare development activities, and so far the residences are the unfortunate sufferers. Come rain, and there is a sudden flood in our colony. For those residing by the Lotha Church road, this is the situation always faced when it rains. Leaving aside the children, one has to draw up their pants or skirts to get across, or wait for some good hours to let the dirty flood water level go down. It reaches knee level due to improper planned old drainage system surrounding the colony. Most of the time, when it rains, the water from the drainage easily manages to flow outside the road, and slip inside the compounds of the residents, making life miserable. From this point of view, one can clearly imagine the condition of the essential drinking water, and of the health hazard faced by the residents during the rainy season. Recently, youths from our colony were also humoring to organize a ‘swimming contest on flood road’ in the evening of May 28.

The authorities need to wake up because no proper steps or measures have been taken up yet for more than six- seven years, be it when it was in the reign of a national party or in a regional one at the moment. It is therefore felt as if the word ‘development’ exists only in the speeches of the public leaders.

With the rainy season at hand, the residents express their hopeful request to the concerned authorities for the construction of the drainage system around the colony at the earliest and only by those skilled contractors who will deliver quality work for the long term. With change in time, diseases and sickness have also progressed to higher levels. It is therefore felt that the authority should come up with some measures and show their humanitarian concern towards the welfare of the people before hopes run out.
