‘Democratize peace building process’

DIMAPUR, DEC 9 (MExN): In an important statement, the Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) has expressed the need to seek effective participation of the people by taking the peace process beyond the negotiating table and in the process democratize the peace building process towards achieving sustainable peace and security

“We will continue to work towards the desire of the Naga people for a just peace settlement to bring about healing in our society infested by intolerance, hatred, conflict, mistrust and sufferings”, stated a press communiqué signed by Dr Lanu Sashi Longkumer, Convenor, Nagaland sector, Phamhring Anal, Convenor, Manipur sector, M. Kikon Convenor, Delhi sector and Nepuni Piku Secretary General, NPMHR Secretariat.

Pointing out that its initiative for peace building process had been often misinterpreted or misrepresented by many as they reached out to the different Naga political formation and sections of the society during the past years, the signatories pointed out that despite such vilification campaign from different quarters, it was committed and focused to the objectives of its mission.

Meanwhile appealing for renewed commitment towards the protection of human rights, the NPMHR on the occasion of the 57th anniversary of the international human rights day has called upon all in “the Naga Homeland to once again renew our commitment to uphold and defend the basic rights and fundamental freedoms of all peoples”.
