DMC “Allotees” say CEO flip-flopped

Dimapur, September 2 (MExN):  The “allotees”’ welfare committee today said that the CEO of Dimapur Municipal Council flip-flopped on the ‘“Allotees”’ agreement and has demanded that the CEO revoke a circular he issued earlier. The ‘welfare committee’ issued a statement asserting that the “present terms and conditions are valid and still stands.”

The committee related the turn of events, emphasizing on the tumbles the CEO took. According to the committee a circular was issued by the DMC advisors to the “Allotees” of DMC stalls to execute the agreement with the council. The contents of the circular were similar to that of the earlier terms and conditions agreed by the “Allotees” and the DMC. Moreover, the new agreement had “certain anomalies which the “Allotees” found to be unreasonable.”

On receiving the circular, the committee stated, the “Allotees” met on August 27 and formed the DMC “Allotees”’ welfare committee. A resolution to submit a representation to the CEO of DMC on August 31 was taken.

The committee explained it in one length: “Upon highlighting the issue to the CEO, the committee members were taken aback because the CEO feigned ignorance about the matter and requested the welfare committee members to refrain from highlighting the issue to the media and also not to submit their representation to the deputy commissioner and the higher-ups as he was totally unaware of such circular being issued by him and that this was a non-issue because the sole authority to issue such circular or notification was the sole prerogative of the CEO only and the advisors have no authority to issue such circular without the knowledge of the CEO but that he would have a meeting with the advisors of the DMC to settle the matter amicably.”

Then to the surprise of the “Allotees” again, the committee stated, the advisors responded through the media the next day stating that “there would be no back-show” on the matter. “The CEO made a flip-flop and took a preposterous stand by issuing a statement to the press on September 2, 2010 in all the local dailies stating that he had issued the circular and not the DMC advisors. This statement by the CEO is diametrically opposite to the statement that he has given to Morung Express on August 31, 2010, front page,” the committee stated.

Still, the welfare committee stated, the larger issue is the contents of the circular which the committee said is “illegal, unreasonable and arbitrary.” “Therefore, the stand of the DMC’s welfare committee is to see that the CEO revokes the said circular because since the inception of the then-town committee 56 years ago, no drastic change has been forced upon the “Allotees” as the present terms and conditions are valid and still stands,” the welfare committee added.
