Peren, January 29 (MExN): KVK Peren, ICAR-RC for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Jalukie organized a two-day exposure tour for farmers of Peren district on January 23 and 24 at ICAR Nagaland Centre, ICAR-NRC on Mithun and Central Institute of Horticulture, Medziphema. 


Altogether, 20 farmers from New Jalukie, Bongkolong, Phijol, New Chalkot, Samzuiram and Deukwaram villages of Peren district participated in the exposure tour funded by NABARD, Dimapur.

 
“The aim of the programme was to enable the participants from different places to interact with each other, witness and learn by seeing the scientific technologies and farming models related to agriculture, Animal husbandry and fisheries that has been developed and practiced by different research institutes,” stated a press release issued by Dr L Babita Devi, Senior Scientist & Head (I/C), KVK Peren.


Dr Azaze, Scientist (Horticulture) and Dr. Lahor J Bordoloi, CTO, led the farmers and demonstrated on different type of component of intensive integrated farming system, polyhouse, floriculture and plantation crop unit, modern nursery facility, vegetable and fruit orchards, vermicompost units, Piggery, poultry, Dairy as well as Rabbitary units at ICAR Nagaland Centre, it said. 


At ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Dr S Stephen (Scientist) and Dr Kubo Khate (Farm Manager) explained in details about the different farm routines at Mithun farm and usefulness and utility of Mithun and a video on Mithun farming was also shown to the participants, it added. 


It further stated that during the visit to CIH, AK Singh and A Singh, Horticulture Specialist and Technical Consultant, explained and showed  various activities undertaken by CIH  like demonstration units of floriculture and fruit crops. The farmers were shown the grafting and budding techniques practised in the centre as well as value addition products of different fruits and vegetables. 


Farmers to farmers interaction, group discussion meeting and interaction programme with the experts were also done, it added. 


The programme was led by Dr Devi, Head (I/C),  Z James Kikon (ACTO, Soil Sc) and Dr. Patu Khate Zeliang  (ACTO, PBG), KVK Peren.
