The Department of Tourism in collaboration with Nagaland Tourism Association (NTA) organised Capacity Building and Training Program at Pochury Hoho Conference Hall, Meluri on October 2.
This programme coincided with Yemshe Mini Hornbill Festival, the premier festival of Pochury Nagas.
This initiative, focused on bolstering the tourism sector, was attended by 36 participants from villages across Meluri Sub Division of Phek district.
In keynote address, S Peter Trakha, Assistant Director and Senior Tourist Officer of Phek & Kiphire, emphasized the immense potential of Nagaland’s tourism industry.
Pochury Hoho president Jonpa Jurry underlined the importance of community engagement in tourism development.
Kejaroko Pieru, President, Nagaland Association of Tour Operators (NATO) talked on “Tourism potentials in Nagaland.” He talked on rich tapestry of Nagaland’s tourist attractions, unlocking new perspectives on promoting the region’s unique offerings particularly the sub-division of Meluri.
Veshehu Kezo, General Secretary NTA, provided comprehensive insights into the art of tour guiding, stressing the role of knowledgeable guides in enhancing the tourist experience.
Veluzo Tetseo, General Secretary of NATO, shed light on the burgeoning trend of homestays, which not only enrich tourists’ experiences but also benefit local communities.
Kejaroko Pieru delivered the closing remarks and thanked all the participants. This program exemplifies the commitment of the Department of Tourism and its partners to foster sustainable tourism practices in Nagaland, Pieru said adding that “By equipping local tourism professionals with the skills and knowledge needed to provide exceptional experiences.” This initiative not only boosts tourism but also strengthens the community’s engagement in this vibrant industry, he added.
The NTA aims to reach out to the far flung areas for such more programs at the same time anticipates the Tourism department to effectively facilitate the stakeholders and the communities to make Nagaland a preferred tourism destination.
Earlier, Vimeto Vakha, President NTA chaired the programme while Sieketho Nyusou, Associate Pastor BCMT invoked God’s blessing.
