Nagas Movement vis-a-vis Leaders ideological factor

Y Wangtin Konyak

The Nagas political movement can be understood as ‘people’s movement’ instead of insurgency or underground as branded by the Indian Government because it is Nagas people who carried out this movement for the past 58 years and thus entire Naga population are accountable to the issue. As much as movement belongs to the Nagas people, they must determine the solution to this issue. All the agreements and accords managed by the GOI has miserably failed due to disagreement from the Nagas side on one hand while adamant attitude of the Indian Government on the other hand. Nagas had enough experience about the policy of the Indian Government towards the Nagas issue and therefore had a little faith on GOI. Both the factions of the NSCN entered into formal ceasefire with the Indian Government in 1997 and 2001.Although NSCN-K is yet to begin its political negotiation with GOI, the NSCN-IM has several round of talks without any breakthrough. The NSCN-IM must know that, any solution without reality and reconciliation will witness highest form of bloodshed among the Nagas

The issue of Nagas people with GOI is sovereignty and this sovereign issue cannot be compromised with more integration as demanded by NSCN-IM. The Naga people cried for peace since ten years but it become next to impossible due to arrogant and racialism attitude of NSCN-IM. The peace that could have been achieved since long time back becomes hardest things today due to arrogant and blood thirsty of NSCN-IM. While retrospecting the past, the NSCN-IM hijacked two golden chance for unity and reconciliation i.e. NSCN-IM killed the Chairman of NSCN-K, Angami Region, Lt Lawrance on August 2003 in the midst of peace and reconciliation programme organized by Naga Hoho and NBCC and rejection of unilateral ceasefire of NSCN-K towards NSCN-IM by the later during March 2004.The policy of anti- Naga and anti-unity framed by certain section or group in NSCN-IM blocked the way for reconciliation and unity of Nagas.

Through the past record and history, the Nagas should know that, NSCN-IM is not for peace or welfare of the Nagas. Nagaland is Christ land but bloodthirsty group turned it into blood flowing stream because they have no love and concern for our beautiful state. Should I also destroy the social fabrics of the Nagas as some leader(s) did? The answer is ‘No’ because it is my beautiful state inhabitate by my lovely citizens, should I also carry out terrorist activities in my Nagaland state, such as Dimapur blast and attempt the life of my leaders? The answer is ‘No’ I cannot because it is my beautiful home and I should protect the lives of my leaders. I know, my leaders in Nagaland state always do more towards others, to save their lives, which do not mean them altogether through out the NSCN and the National Movement. The NSCN (GPRN) knows the position of our leaders under the gun threat but they also should know who is real or bonafide organization. The NSCN (GPRN) will never give up the issue of sovereignty because it is amounting to the betrayal of the National Movement for which our forefathers sacrificed their lives, Nagas should know only the NSCN (GPRN) under the leadership of S.S.Khaplang, Gen. Khole and Kitovi will save the Nation from the jaws of anti-Nagas and anti-Nation. The NSCN (GPRN) will leave no stone unturned to protect the sovereignty of Nagas nation. The view of the writer does not target particular Nagas tribe because he loves all Nagas equally but regretted for arrogant and proud ness of certain leaders.
