NSF on differences arising out of Naga Club centenary celebration

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 19 (MExN): The Naga Students Federation (NSF) on Friday issued a clarification on the differences arising out of the proposed celebration of the 100th years of Naga Club.

While expressing regret for the confusion that have arisen out of the proposed celebration, the NSF in a press release has urged all to collectively seek ways where every Naga can proudly participate and celebrate “our proud history together in a most befitting manner.”

It pointed out that through the celebration; the Federation was only upholding the sanctity of the principles of the Naga Club, to “honour our ancestors and all pioneers of the Naga Club then and not otherwise.”

The Federation also sought to point out that the concept of celebrating the occasion totally varied with that of the Naga Club. It believed that the occasion should be celebrated by the Nagas as a whole as it ramified to the Naga political consciousness, while the present Naga Club intend to make an affair confined to the state of Nagaland.

Stating that it by no means claims ownership to the Naga Club, the Federation reiterated its main objective is to celebrate, as its theme suggest, “Celebrating the Legacy” and to give tribute to our elders who had started our Naga journey of collectively responding to the changes of time and envisioning a shared future.

The Federation further conveyed that it has no intention of antagonizing or confronting any group or individual while asserting that it will function, guided by the fundamental principles that are “clearly enshrined in its constitution for a unified lim and glory of the Nagas.”

It also said the NSF will always remain open to the idea of inclusiveness, where “all of us can come together to celebrate this occasion on the concept handed down to us by the pioneers of the Naga Club from 1918 onwards that Nagas are one people and that the voice of the Naga Club even through the submission of the Memorandum to the Simon Commission in 1929 was on behalf of all Nagas wherever they are.”

Centenary should be celebrated on the facts of Naga Club: APO

Meanwhile, the Angami Public Organization (APO) stated that the Naga Club centenary celebration is an auspicious occasion for each and every Naga and the occasion should be celebrated on the facts of the Naga Club and the factual story should not be distorted.

With the NSF and the Naga Club both wanting to host the centenary celebration, the APO, which was entrusted to broker an understanding between the two parties, said it delegated two teams to both the party for dialogue. However, the APO regretted that a common understanding could not be established and therefore could not bridge the gap between the two parties.

While praying that a sense of brotherhood and understanding will prevail between the two organizations, the APO also hoped that the centenary celebration of the Naga Club will lay down the factual foundations of our Naga history for the upcoming generations and this occasion will educate and inspire us for the better.
