Referral Hospital and the common people

The BJP Dimapur, after its interaction and consultation with the common people, expresses the earnest desire of the common people to see the functioning of the Referral Hospital at the earliest. The BJP Dimapur is very pleased to learn that the much awaited Referral Hospital is now becoming a reality. It was a cherished dream of the Nagas people to have their own Referral Hospital. However, it is sad and frustrating to lean that the NDA and some NGO’s has opposed the implementation of the tripartite agreement between the CMC Vellore, EHA and the Nagaland Government, which would have brought the functioning of the hospital in the near future. In fact it is frustrating to know that the state like Sikkim, which started quite late in comparison to Nagaland in the establishment of such institution, today has a Medical College of its own. It is also ironical that the members of the NDA who are also employees of the State Government are opposing the Government on whose payroll they belong. Moreover, the NGO who have joined the NDA bandwagon of opposing the tripartite agreement exemplifies the convergence of vested interest against the popular demend.the operation of the Referral Hospital would have brought immense benefit to the Nagas people.

In the first place, the cost of medical treatment for serious ailments would be minimized as half of the expenses for these treatments are spent on traveling and lodging expenses in far off cities. Patients from interior villages would be able to afford advance medical treatment which would be made available in the Referral Hospital. Moreover, the functioning of the hospital would have generated employment opportunities for the Nagas people in sectors such as transport, hotels and other allied medical activities. In short, the benefit would trickle down to the grass root level.

The people in general would like to se the functioning of the Referral Hospital by the CMC Vellore and EHA, at the earliest. Since these two are Christian based organizations with immense experience in the medical sciences, therefore it is felt that they will provide quality medical health care in the true Christian spirit of service to mankind and not based on mere profit motive. Moreover, all the parties in disputes should bear in their mind that the longer they wrangle amongst themselves, the more the structures of the hospital depreciates in term of its structural longevity, which is colossal waste for the state. Finally, the BJP Dimapur would like to express its gratitude to the DAN Government and to Dr.T.M. Lotha, Minister for Health and Family Welfare, for making the effort of putting the Referral Hospital in operation at the earliest, despite opposition from vested interest. The common people have suffered for too long in silence and it is the fervent prayer of the common people that the efforts of the government bear fruit at the earliest.
