School students in Dimapur nearly clash in the streets

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 4 (MExN): Students of two reputed schools of Dimapur were nearly involved in a fist-fight on the streets Saturday, September 4. According to informed sources the confrontation arose from an ‘SMS’. Timely intervention from the DNSU and the police however, prevented it from turning into an all-out brawl.

The students involved, in full school uniform, were from Holy Cross Higher Secondary (HCHSS) School and Christian Higher Secondary School (CHSS), eyewitnesses said.

A student of one of the schools on condition of anonymity revealed that some high school level students of one of the schools send out a text message to a higher secondary student of the other. The ‘SMS’, the student said challenged the receiver for a fight.

Following the receipt of the message the receiver along with several of his school mates confronted the sender in front of HCHSS entrance gate. It was however stopped from turning into a fight after the principal of HCHSS intervened and they were dispersed. DNSU members and police also reached the spot by the time, it is learned. It happened between 11:00 to 12:00 pm.

The matter however did not end there as the students met again for another altercation at Church Road afterwards at around 1:00 pm. This time a huge crowd gathered at the scene including onlookers. Students from other schools and colleges were said to have been involved during the second confrontation, witnesses said. DNSU members’ alongwith the police were able to dissuade the students from furthering the stand-off.

Both the schools, like many other schools had celebrated Teachers’ Day in their respective schools today. Some of the students were under the influence of alcohol, it is learned. President of the DNSU Medovoi Medeo when contacted said the matter was settled there and then, and the students involved made to amicably come to an understanding.

He though said such incidents are a concern for everyone and appealed upon all concerned, especially the parents, to give effort so that this kind of incidents does not occur in future.
