Dimapur, June 22 (MExN): The Department of Sociology, St Joseph University launched a lecture series with a session titled ‘Movement of Human Capital within Brain Gain and Brain Drain’ on June 21 via Google Meet.

The lecture series will continue till July 1, according to a press release from the PRO, SJU. The webinar for the first lecture was attended by about 75 participants inclusive of both faculty and students, it added.

The welcome note was delivered by the faculty in charge Asst. Professor, Department of Sociology Dr Tiatula Ozukum and the resource person was Dr Walunir Tzudir, who is the Principal of St John Higher Secondary Residential School, Dimapur.

Dr Tzudir began his lecture by explaining about the meaning of human capital, brain gain, and brain drain. He went on to talk about how in the early 90s the whole idea of brain drain started because of the human capital moving to nations and places with better facilities and that over time this has evolved into a brain gain for the immigrant countries. He also added that the need of the hour for the Naga youths was the availability of professional courses targeted at improving the skills of the youth.

To conclude, Dr Tzudir encouraged the participants to recognize their skills and work on honing their talents passionately in order for success to follow.  The lecture was followed by a round of discussions where the students as well as the faculty asked questions and gave positive comments to the resource person. This was followed by the vote of thanks delivered by Katimenla, PG 2nd Semester, the release stated.
