Where are the Naga people heading for?

Naga people have fought for her Sovereignty for the last fifty years with one voice and mind under the banner of Nagaland for Christ. While fighting for her sovereignty, tens and thousands of Naga patriots lost their lives for the cause of Naga people and Nation. Naga villages were burned down by the Indian armed Forces. The Naga people suffered untold miseries in the jungle without medical care for the sick and wounded persons and their properties and houses were burned into ashes. However, the Naga patriots has fought a good fight their enemies with strong determination for the Nation and its people. On the other hand the Naga people gave full support with prayers to God for His blessing and protection of Naga patriots.

But now the Naga people are under five (5) Governments, paying taxes, extortions and demand notes. Killing the people in the society is still going on. Factions’ fighting is a daily affair in the-State. Economic blockade imposed upon the people is still continuing by factions in the Sate. The Naga people, NGOs and Churches appeals to the factions to stop killing among the Nagas, is but in vain. Life attempt of a scribe at State capital Kohima, ordering the Shops in Dimapur to open on Sunday and factions fighting at Athibung are the gifts for the Nagas. In the meantime, the NSCN (1M) is not happy with the Govt of India for her insincerity towards the on going peace process and threatening to go back to jungle.

Naga Hoho: - At this critical juncture, the Naga Hoho has a vital role to play in the Naga Society. Churches under the banner of Nagaland Christian Forum and CNMC tried their level best for reconciliation but not up to expectation. Some Tribes tried to bridge the gap but could not materialise. Now it is time, every Naga played a positive role placing Naga interest above everything as the Naga people cry for peace and a permanent one at that. The Naga Hoho, the apex body of entire Nagas should work out the modality for peace, unity and reconciliation of factions, Underground and over ground and political parties etc, at the earliest.

But it is perturbed to learn that Horangse Sangtam, the President of Naga Hoho was expelled for 3(three) years by his own tribe, United Sangtam Likhum Bumji (USLB) as per press statements which appeared in the local dailies. If it is so, then Horangse Sangtam will have to step down from the President ship of Naga Hoho.

An expelled person cannot hold the post of President, Naga Hoho. It is wise on his part to resign from the post in order to protect the chair. A leader should have a leader’s principle and to lead the people to the right path instead of creating confusion. It is time now for Naga intellectuals to speak out and play their role before it is too late.
