173 CRPF empowering people through civic action

Dimapur, October 1 (MExN): The closing ceremony of a bamboo art production, tailoring and stitching training organised by 173 battalion Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), under its civic action programme, was held at the battalion headquarter today. Editor of Nagaland Post Geoffrey Yaden graced the occasion as chief guest.

In his address, Yaden impressed upon the trainees to utilise opportunities to become independent craftsmen and women. He said that since practical training has been imparted to them, it was now up to them to put it into good use. He advised them not to depend on the government for support; rather, try to make it with the skills which have been imparted. “Don’t expect protection from the government…if you want to be independent, be persistent in your work,” Yaden said. He added that successful people are those who struggle and keep trying to remain at the top.

Also appreciating the gesture of 173 Bn CRPF, Yaden said the civic action programme is a positive step towards development. He pointed out the benevolent gesture will build better relations with people in the State. “The CRPF has not been trained to do this but it is choice they are making and we must learn to appreciate that,” he said. He also remarked on the lack of avenues for people in the region, saying that unless opportunities are given to people, they will be compelled to adopt other means for survival.

Commandant Anupam of 173 Bn CRPF in his address said physical boundaries must not create enmity between people. He said human values are the same everywhere irrespective of stature. With this endeavour the CRPF is trying to help the people in Nagaland, he added.

15 people underwent training under award winning craftsman Zuben Lotha at the 173 Bn CRPF headquarters. Lotha thanked 173 Bn CRPF for extending support to the local people especially those from underprivileged backgrounds. He hoped the CRPF would continue to support the local people even in future. The participants were awarded certificate of participation. Their products were also put on display. The main aim of the training was to impart training to local people and make them self reliant. The training was conducted with special emphasis on youths.
