Dimapur set to witness Classic Rock Ballads live concert

Dimapur is set to witness a Class Rock revival of the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s as Music Rendezvous and Love East plans to organise a live concert dubbed “Classic Rock Ballads, music for a cause” at the Mandeville Garden located in Purana Bazar on May 18. 

Supported by Task Force for Music & Arts (TaFMA) and Mokokchung District Disabled Forum (MDFF), the event is expected to bring together renowned acts such as Obed Kath, front man of Divine Connection, Moanungsang and Asung Imchen as co-headliners. The opening act will feature the band, Hot Pot along with appearances by the Classic Project Band featuring Jonathan, Akok Imsong, Temjen Lemtur, Yangkum Jinger, and Akum Jamir. 

Announcing this at a press conference on Thursday at Business Association of Nagas (BAN) conference hall in Dimapur, the organisers stated that the concert will be a fundraising endeavor where a portion of the proceeds will go toward supporting disabled children of MDDF in need. The general tickets have been priced at Rs 500, Silver tickets for Rs 1000, VIP tickets of Rs 10,000 (admit four) and Rs 2500 (admit one). 

Most of the set-lists will include cover tunes from popular bands such as Journey, White Snake, Bon Jovi and many more which people will be familiar with.  

Gates will be opened from 6:30 PM onwards and tickets can be purchased at Crescendo music store or at the venue as well. 

According to Roselyn Pongen, founder of Music Rendezvous, the concert has been set to take place at Dimapur on May 18 with future dates planned at Kohima and Mokokchung during the month of June.  Briefing about the formation of Music Rendezvous, she mentioned that it was formed in December 2023 with the intention to promote Naga artists and since its inception it has been organizing events.

Head of Love East and proprietor of Crescendo, Akum Jamir meanwhile noted that the event hopes to bring together music lovers from different generations who grew up listening to classic rock. It will be a family-friendly concert, he said and so encouraged parents to bring their children along to come and witness live music performances. Alcohol and smoking will not be allowed, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all attendees, besides music, stalls will be set up for the audiences to enjoy.

Event partners include Shiu Lights, Crescendo, and AJ Power.
