Kohima, October 29 (MExN): A two-week capacity building programme on curriculum Development for Higher Education Teachers under the aegis of Nagaland University, Department of Teacher Education, Kohima Campus, Meriema got underway on October 26 at NU Kohima Campus, Meriema.

Addressing the inaugural programme, Prof Dr GT Thong, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Nagaland University, Kohima Campus opined that curriculum design should focus on three aspects. He said that it should be learner centred, traditional subject centred design and problem centred design; focusing on the involvement of the pupils in the learning process and imbibing problem solving skills and enhancing the communication skills of the students.

Dr Jano Legise, Dean, School of humanities and Education, in her welcome address, applauded the initiatives of the department and encouraged the participants to work towards building academic friendship, and to step out with a renewed zeal, determination and purpose.

Dr Sushil Kumar Singh, the Programme Director elaborated on the theme of the programme. He explained how the teachers play a vital role in the society and that the Teachers need to be enlightened first to guide new generation on the path of perfection.

The two-week programme will provide appropriate knowledge and skills for curriculum development and enhance the capability of the teachers. The participants can also share innovative ideas and challenges experienced around the country.

He said that the participants will be trained to design the curriculum according to the needs of the present situation.

Dr Surendra Yadav, Programme Co-Director highlighted the objectives of organising the workshop. Concluding remarks was given by Dr Pradipta Kumar Pattnaik while vote of thanks was proposed by Prof Dr Gyanendra Nath Tiwari. 

Dr T Yolila Sangtam, Assistant Professor of Teacher Education chaired the programme.

The programme will continue till November 6.
