Deo Nukhu seeks social harmony from Meluri people

Meluri | February 20 : Expressing serious concern over the division of the present society in various aspects, MLA & Advisor Art & Culture, Science & Technology and New & Renewable Energy, government of Nagaland, Deo Nukhu yesterday stressed on the importance of maintaining social harmony from the grass root level. He also hinted on easing of talks on politics, besides religious conflicts on denomination issue, stating it is the need of the hour.
Addressing a mammoth gathering of Meluri citizens as chief guest on the occasion of 33rd Meluri Cultural Day organized by Müluori Nysho Kügharü (Meluri Cultural Union) on February 19, at Meluri local ground Nukhu stated that religious conflicts on denomination issues, is posing threat and acts as a hindrance of social harmony in the community.

Terming the sub-division town of Meluri as the mirror of the district, he said it has vast advantages of exposing its unique identity to other parts of the districts, states and even alien nations saying that it was located on the border which act as the gateway of the Phek district.
Urging upon the people to continue on preserving cultural and traditional values with seriousness, he said, ‘the real identity of a citizen is none other than his or her culture’. A man without culture can never regard a true citizen of any community rather those persons should be categorized as man of no background or in other word neglected citizen of a community.
Recalling back his days at Meluri Town more than three decade ago, where he was part of the town serving as teacher in Meluri Government high school, he stated happiness that the town was seeing progress. Stating on the benefits of MGNREGA for the rural people, he said that many villages has been speedily developing their environment with the very scheme; he further urged them to utilize the scheme with accountability. In regard to two representations submitted by the people of Meluri, he assured to take up the matter of financial assistance towards the promotion of Library in the coming financial year also he said he would take up the matter of constructing the Cultural Hall at Meluri Town as and when the central government gives green signal in this regard, he however stated that it would take time to fulfill the same.
Meanwhile, on day one, Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, Law and Justice, government of Nagaland Yitachu graced the function on February 18 as the chief guest. He urged the community to unite themselves with firmness keeping in mind the necessity of reviving and preserving the aged-old traditions as the priority of their lives. He said that culture plays a vital role in the present society by uniting their own descendants irrespective of boundary demarcation, religions, social discriminations etc and opined that the practice of cultural isolation and division creates a big blockade for the development and added that it need a U turn to further practice the unity awareness through cultural platform.
According to the organizers, the celebration was an annual event where people of Meluri observes the celebration with pomp and gaiety under colorful customs, the celebration marked with traditional games, songs merry making, feast etc as part preserving the aged-old traditions and cultures. The two day long observation was participated by the entire community of Meluri on Khel wise basis competitions comprises of five khels. The celebration culminated with a mass grand feast at the local ground.
