Do you think 'Clean and Fair' elections is possible in Nagaland?

I doubt! Maybe a better election than the previous held elections but a complete 'Clean and Fair' elections may take us years. Much has been done by various organizations, churches and concern groups/individuals and for which they deserve our applause! "Kudos to them." But, there are still some willing to sell themselves at any rate. A special class for the candidates/politicians before the election can be helpful - teaching them few lessons on 'How to Conduct elections in a Clean and Fair means'. Thujonieyi (Jojo) Khamo Billy Graham Road, kohima For me, there is not even 1% chance for “Clean and Fair election” in Nagaland. I haven't seen more corruption than Nagaland anywhere in India. I don't see any possibility because 95% including the leader and the public are corrupt. We are too deep rooted in corruption which has affected all areas of social and economic development where both public and the contesting candidates are equally guilty of corruption. It’s high time the churches take a more proactive role against corruption. Bendangienla Amer, Mokokchung Naga politics is commonly identified in way of money and muscle power, alcoholic power, gun culture, 'ism' politics, abuse of power and position, impersonation and booth capturing. Thus, fair elections do not exist in Nagaland. Practically speaking, we usually don't vote for someone who deserves to be a candidate but mostly vote base on one’s related tribe/denomination/family/clan. However, to some extent, it can be minimized if the Election Commission takes proper steps to check proxy/bogus votes (one man one vote), and properly implement PR Act 1950.

Pulling the leg of competent and ambitious leaders is the present trend by the rich; this is the reason why our society seems to be waning in certain perspective despite efforts. If we do need our society to be deliberately progressive and ‘second to none’, our instinct should allow mind-set to shun malpractices and allow those proficient and dexterous individuals to lead our people. Consistent efforts are needed to better those extremely least advantaged and impoverished section of people. Indoctrinate ideas of transparency with humanity to elect deserving figures. In a nutshell, let’s condemn proxy votes, money power and influence of alcohol. If Nagas would keep in mind some of these doctrines, YES! Clean and Fair election is possible in Nagaland!!!

Yes, I strongly believe clean and fair election is possible in Nagaland. If we, from the grassroot level are true, honest and dedicated in our actions, we are sure that the said issue is sure to see it's fruit because just as the fruit mirrors the condition of its tree so also our representatives reflects us. If we don't sell our rights like this to enjoy those few notes for a day or two but sacrifice our selfish ends to enjoy a long prosperous government, I am sure we will experience clean and fair elections in our state.

Mothel, Nagaland University

Until and unless some miracle happens and make our place upside down, there won’t be any fair election in our society.
