‘Feel the pulse of the environment’

Fazl Ali College conducts webinar on collaborative initiatives on biodiversity

MOKOKCHUNG, OCTOBER 1 (MExN): Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung in collaboration with LEMSACHENLOK Society and Eco Club, FAC organised a Webinar on September 30 at 5:00 pm.

The first resource person Y Nuklu Phom, Leader, LEMSACHENLOK Society recently a winner of the Whitley Award 2021 delivered on the topic ‘Collaborative Initiatives on Bio-Diversity.’ He urged people to feel the pulse of the environment, the pulse of the community and start to self regulate, self assess and start to move forward to a sustainable future. He opined that in order maintain a sustainable environment people need to identify the factors depleting the environment.

These factors, he stated, include addressing the issue to the stakeholders and sensitize them through various programmes; scientific research for fact findings; collaboration among various agencies; and initiative from policy makers for strong policy implementation. He further emphasized on collaboration of community and institutions for further research, the need to enter the field directly and working hand in hand.

The second resource person, Dr Temjensangla Pongener, Assistant Professor, Department of Geography, FAC delivered on the topic ‘Green Audit.’ She opined that in order to achieve the status of Green Campus all the green initiatives being undertaking should be audited systematically, quantified, analyzed, recorded and reported upon in time.

The Green Audit provides better understanding of green impact on the campus where “we ourselves evaluate our own contribution towards a sustainable future,” she said. Green Audit can be achieved first by learning to build good, honest, elaborate and punctual documentation of ideas and activities. The institutions need to develop SOPs for each activity/initiative with a vision, mission, objective, functioning and outcome, Dr Pongener said.

She added that good SOPs and documentation help to chart a roadmap to achieve institutional excellence by developing, improving, monitoring and eventually establishing a brand image, an intuitional identity for the college.

She suggested that the process for Green Audit would include setting up a committee; creating a policy; identifying the already existing initiatives; action plan of each initiative (to avoid overlapping); collaboration and relation between different activities/ initiatives; and periodic collection of reports.

Dr R Bendangtemjen, Assistant Professor, Department of Geography, FAC was the host of the webinar. There was a lively Q&A session with both the resource person.  IQAC Coordinator Dr Lanurenla welcomed and extended words of appreciation to the resource persons and to all participants. All together 60 participants comprising of FAC faculty and members from the LEMSACHENLOK Society attended the webinar.
