Govt & bank authorities requested to help each other

Kohima, July 28 (DIPR): State Level Bankers Committee meeting for the state of Nagaland was held with the Chief Secretary Lalthara IAS as the chief guest today the July 28, 2010 at Hotel Japfu Kohima.

Speaking to the various bank representatives in the State, Lalthara said that they need to support each other for better implementation of bank facilities to the people of the State. He lauded the bankers for promoting banking and development activities in the state of Nagaland. Referring to the arrest of Specular Northeast (SNE) issue, Lalthara apprised that circulation of money is a crucial issue and therefore urged the depositors to be aware for saving of money. He further said that everybody has to involves and play a role for impressive economic growth. He felt that in the context of banking, things have been improving very fast in connectivity through telecom, etc and hoped that every village could avail the facilities very soon.

Regional Director Reserve Bank of India, Durekha Morandi in her opening remarks said that Rural Development should identify the eligible farmers for the bank to help them. She also urged the Agriculture department to help the banks so that they can take up the cases and give loan in time/season. In her speech she requested the state government and bank authorities to help each other for development of the state. She also added that the state government of Nagaland has declared this year as the ‘Year of the Entrepreneur’ and apprised the government of the possibilities of cooperation to generate employment for the unemployed in the state as well as to achieve economic growth in the northeast. Chief General Manager, State Bank of India, R.K. Garg in his keynote address said that he had met the Chief Minister and had fruitful discussions for the development of the state. Commenting on the “Year of the Entrepreneur” which is focused on financial help for the unemployed, he felt that floriculture and other similar activities would solve the problem of development to a great extend.

The minutes of the last SLBC meeting held on 29.04.2010 was reviewed during the meeting. Some of the reviewed action points taken by all banks are- a total number of 19181 accounts have been opened against target of 21350 numbers by the banks up to the quarter end. Total number of 934 GCC were issued by the banks up to March 2010. It has also mentioned that there are 70 (seventy) Core Banking Branches and 53 (fifty three) ATMs in Nagaland as on 31.03.2010 and a proposal for more ATMs installation are in the pipeline. The overall achievement by all banks under ACP 2009-10 is Rs. 47336.68 against target of Rs. 41468.47 (114%). The overall CD ratio by all banks is 31.32% as on 31.03.2010.

Bureaucrats and Head of Departments from the State also attended the meeting and shared their views faced by the departments for the development of the State.
