Dimapur, September 29 (MExN): Department of English, ICFAI University Nagaland organised a webinar on ‘Rethinking post-colonialism in contemporary Naga milieu’ on September 29. The resource person was Dr Rhelo Kenye, Guest Faculty at Centre for Comparative Literature, University of Hyderabad.

The talk was introduced by posing a question of how relevant is post-colonial theory especially in today’s Naga context. What is important today in our field of studies is perhaps the deconstruction and decolonization of narratives already present.

Dr Kenye reiterated on the importance of critical observations and approaches that one needs to consider. The speaker also expressed his current observations on the need to revive our culture however sometimes we limit ourselves to the past.

Citing instances from Naga music, culture and literature, he also commented that, often, the artists have an objective approach to studying the Naga narratives in the light of post-colonialism. The speaker enlightened also the audience to rethink and relook the approach of post colonialism, and rather put it as an integrative field of study.
