International Yoga Day and its benefits

The International Yoga Day is been celebrated on June 21 since its inception. On December 11, 2014, the United Nations proclaimed June 21 as the International Yoga Day. 

 

June 21 is the longest day of the year in the mass northern hemisphere (Shortest in the Southern hemisphere), having special significance in many parts of the world. Around 192 countries with great enthusiasm participated IYD last few years. 

 

Some of the physical benefits of yoga are – increase flexibility, increase muscle tone, improve respiration energy & vitality, maintain a balanced metabolism, weight reduction, cardio circulatory health, improve athletic performance and protection from injuries & etc.

 

The mental benefits  by practicing Raja Yoga are- Raja Yoga meditation gives you peace of mind & relaxes your body; It helps you develop a positive attitude & respond better to situation; It helps to develop positive relationships; It improves concentration & increases clarity; A broad sense of self-worth is developed. Raja means king, a king acts with independence, self-confidence & assurance. Raja yoga is a path of self-discipline & practice. 

 

Raja Yoga is also known as Ashtanga Yoga, because it is organized in eight part: self-control, discipline, physical exercises, breathing exercises, withdrawal of the senses from external objects, concentration, meditation, complete realization.
