Chang Students’ Union Tuensang Town (CSUTT) organized one-day seminar for class 10 and 12 dropouts from Chang community at CBLT conference hall, Tuensang on September 25. The seminar held on the theme ‘Lighthouse’ saw a turnout of 25 dropout students attending the seminar which included 11 girls and 14 boys in total.

Rev Sangkap, O Akum and P Chingmak as the speakers discussed on the topics such as- know your skills, are you confused?, Education & life pro goals and contextual entrepreneurship. The seminar was divided into two separate classes with two sessions each and one combined session. There were different practical activities and thought processing exercises for the youngsters throughout the day.

P Chingmak, Entrepreneur said, “We discussed about the opportunities for enterprises or entrepreneurship in the district. We discussed about the strength and the weaknesses or traits in our context of our district and town. Since most of the dropouts are from class 10 and 12, we discussed about the opportunities in the skill-based service sector and the eco-tourism opportunities which we see as an avenue to come by in the future.”

Briefing on his session, O Akum said, “One of the sessions we do is about life pro goals. So basically, there are lot of educated people as of now and one thing we emphasis is even if we fail in the exams, it is not the failure in life. So, one of the few things we discuss here is the importance of education even if you don’t get a job and how education becomes a part and parcel of your life.”

CSUTT, President, Thungti Khumba, stated that the reason behind the seminar was to encourage the dropouts who have mostly lost interest in their life due to the failure in their academics. Their focus is to motivate them to find their skills and to set goals. He also mentioned that due to such failures most of the youngsters are in depression and some even have suicidal thoughts in their mind. Therefore, they want to encourage and motivate them to find passion in their life once again. The union further thanked all the well wishers for the contribution made towards the cause.

The daylong event ended with a discussion hour with the speakers and CSUTT officials followed by evening service led by Rev Sangkap, pastor TTBL.
