My experiences of the most loving and caring community in midst of COVID-19

Cathy Imtila
Dimapur

I am putting out this write up to give a big loud shout-out to the multiple people from different stratus of life who have come together to fight Covid-19, gently proving that God’s love is tangible through their sacrificial care, support, love and selfless contributions and efforts.

My journey to Mokokchung started on August 17 as my dad who had prostrate problem and malaria typhoid ended up being tested corona positive and had to be admitted in the Covid Care Hospital, Mokokchung.

My daughter and I decided to travel from Dimapur and be his attendants but we reached four hours late.

Because dad’s house was already sealed, my eldest brother T Yanger and his family welcomed us warmly to their home and we were there for six days. We made three trips everyday to the hospital with dad’s dietary requirements. We were off-loaded the feeding part for dad’s two attendants who had so selflessly volunteered and were staying with him at the Covid Care Hospital, my cousin sister Lipoksangla and our colony brother, Bendangmongba. God bless their sweet souls. Mokokchung Town Baptist Church (MTBA) provided their breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner.

My father was sent home after being tested negative on August 22. But on August 23, his condition became serious and his oxygen level dropped to 81!

While we were feeling helpless we came to know that MTBA provides oxygen concentrator to the needy. It was 6:00 am and I called my friend Sentimeren, pastor, MTBA and he directed to the oxygen incharge who was none other than my colony brother and music director MTBA, Pangerlemba.

Then and there itself Odi Panger agreed to meet and allot us the oxygen concentrator which we fetched it with grateful hearts. Before we could even plug it in, my dad was becoming delirious so we decided to again take him to the Covid Care Hospital. And thus, my journey of meeting all great lovely caring people continued.

On August 23 we arrived at the Covid Care Hospital, Mokokchung. Dr Imsongienla, my niece (through marriage) constantly consulted us, sometimes even at wee morning hours for guiding and advising.

I experienced my dad being treated under two efficient teams of doctors and nurses during my nearly two weeks stay. One team was led by Dr Ruovinuo Theunuo and the other team was led by Dr Ao and they were the most caring, sweet and nicest of all.

Seeing us struggle with the patient day and night, they even gave us expensive multi-vitamins and other medicines for free, and even said they will exceptionally allow us to replace one attendant and get a male attendant as my dad’s case was complicated which left him restless whole day and night. We had to be alert every second.

The PPE gear that the doctors and nurses wear is an outfit worn in love and sacrifice. For me, I call it “being clothed in kindness.” I have seen how they struggled with the PPE gear, yet they never showed any signs of discomfort. I could only see and sense love and care being emitted through their gear. Thank you nurses and doctors! Your dedicated service, the genuine care and love made us experience, not just once, but the whole time we were there. I am left speechless and I salute you. May your tribe be the most blessed and may your tribe increase!

The efficient 24/7 networking of different teams- task force, medical team and MTBA made life most pleasant during our hospitalised as well as quarantine days.

For all patients, attendants and medical team, MTBA runs the most lavish and thoughtful kitchen that provided us with healthy and delicious meal. The food was always prepared with loving and hygienically packed, and served. Indeed, MTBA too tops my “gratitude list” on quietly but so magnanimously serving the public. Saving not just souls but lives! May your investment of time, effort, money and most importantly your care for your suffering sheep return to you all in the form of crowns of glory from God and all mankind.

After being tested corona negative, we returned home for quarantine and yet once more a brow raiser awaited us in the form of one bag of rice, two kgs of milk powder, a gigantic bottle of horlicks and even one kilo of tea leaves, courtesy MTBA again, delivered by task force. Thank you MTBA and task force.

I cannot conclude without conveying my sincere thanks to the endless prayer support from neighbours, (both Dimapur and Mokokchung) relatives, pastors, prayer warriors, missionaries, well wishers, friends, villager. As human beings with divine guidance and Christian love and sheer humane attitude, we are defeating the virus and rather, building a concrete wall of oneness in love. Yes, we are successfully becoming one and standing up against the virus. Hats off to all corona defeating champs and frontline warriors. God with us! YAY!
