Naga Org gives Ibobi Dec 17 dateline to revoke decision

Dimapur, Dec 7 (MExN): The Naga People’s Organisation (NPO) and the Committee on 2001 Census have given December 17 to the O Ibobi Singh Government in Manipur as the last date for revoking the cabinet decision taken by the Manipur State Legislative Assembly on Septembers 18, 2003 regarding the 2001 Census and also to fulfill the demand  to maintain status quo of the 2001 provisional Census figure in respect of Mao Maram, Paomata and Purul Sub Divisions.

The ultimatum letter to the Manipur Chief Minister jointly signed by M Dili, NPO President, Hingba Thomas, President of Maram Union, Adani Choro, President of Mao Hoho, ML Markson Chairman, Committee on 2001 Census, NG Kuikang President of Zeliangrong Union and H Kangba President of Thangal Union, stated that the people of Senapati District particularly the three sub division viz. Mao-Maram, Paomata and Purul have been tolerating for too long, the sinister policy of the Government of Manipur in canceling the 2001 Census of the above mentioned Sub divisions which have deliberately denied their very existence in the State. 

The release stated that the NPO and the Committee on the 2001 Census have submitted representations and demonstrated democratically in protest of the Cabinet Decision, Manipur Legislative Assembly and the subsequent cancellation of Census.

The release further stated that in the event of failing to adress the above two demands within the stipulated period of time, the release asked state government to withdraw all the Government facilities and establishment from the area and leave them to decide their own fate. Further it warned the Government of Manipur shall be solely responsible for any untoward incidents following public uprising.
