The Nagaland unit of the Bharati Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) said that the Agnipath Scheme, announced by Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh on June 14, will revolutionise the Indian armed forces. Addressing a press conference today in Dimapur in the backdrop of the announcement, Imnaningkum Longkumer, General Secretary, BJYM, Nagaland, termed the move “a bold decision” of the government. While stating that the scheme is futuristic in concept, he said that it will bring about a healthy youth-experience balance in the personnel composition of the armed forces. “This is going to bring transformational change in the country by way of the armed forces moving forward. This is going to provide the much needed change the three forces have needed,” he said.

BJYM, Nagaland President, said that the scheme has been designed to inject a youthful profile to the armed forces. Soldiers recruited under the new scheme will retire at the end of the fourth year of service, alongwith retirement entitlements as outlined by the scheme. Highlighting some of the significant features of the scheme, he said that a fourth of retirees will be reabsorbed via the existing enrolment procedures.

Arvind Damani, BJYM NEC Member incharge of Meghalaya, held the new recruitment system will be a “game changer” in the modern military scheme of things.
