NSCN-K (Khango) denounces DCCI for blaming NPGs over multiple taxation

Says right to levy tax is between the NSCN and the Naga people

DIMAPUR, MAY 3 (MExN): The NSCN/GPRN (Khango) has condemned the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) for blaming the Naga Political Groups (NPGs) over the issue of multiple taxation and sought to clarify its position and address DCCI’s “baseless accusations.”

In a press communiqué issued through its MIP, the NSCN/GPRN (Khango) expressed grave concern over the “recent turmoil instigated by the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), which unjustly blames all Naga Political Groups (NPGs) for the issue of multiple taxation” and which culminated in a “disruptive shutter-down protest.”

Condemning the “irresponsible action” the Khango led NSCN-K termed the DCCI as “a group of self-serving individuals who holds no authority to dictate the matters of national importance.”

It asserted that the Naga political struggle, including the right to levy taxes is a matter solely between the NSCN and the Naga people since its inception and that the DCCI's “interference in this sensitive national issue creates confusion among the public and undermines the hard-earned progress of the Naga National movement over several decades.”

It also maintained that the GoI and the NSCN/GPRN (K) signed a ceasefire agreement as a separate entity, and the State Government is not subjected to the political affairs of the NSCN.

Questioning the State Home Minister’s directive to invoke the National Security Act (NSA) against individuals and detain them outside the state, the NSCN/GPRN (Khango) termed it as a “mockery undermining the ceasefire ground rules and its mechanism.”

Towards this, it has cautioned that the State Government and Home Minister will be held “solely responsible for any consequences arising towards NSCN members due to this misguided decision.”

On the DCCI charter of demand to the State Government and the subsequent order circulated against NPGs through Home department, the NSCN/GPRN (Khango) informed that it held a crucial meeting on May 1 to deliberate on the issue and resolved that the “NSCN/GPRN government is fully prepared even to the extent of abrogating the Ceasefire to safeguard the rights of the Naga National cause.”

“The NSCN/GPRN (K) government will explore all available avenues to expose the State Government agencies, security forces, committee/union those responsible for these detrimental actions and hold them accountable for the ensuing consequences in the second phase,” it stated.
