Nagaland: Yung Aung-led NSCN (K) reacts to Governor’s letter

Dimapur, July 2 (MExN): While congratulating Nagaland Governor R N Ravi on his ‘short term achievements’, the Yung Aung-led NSCN (K) also said that “he should publicly acknowledge his gratitude to the Nagas for his meteoric rise.”

It said that the Governor should respect Naga institutions and customs while in Naga areas.

“Comparing Indian gangs to Naga nationalists only shows his ignorance,” a statement from Nikato Pilot Sumi, the outfit’s Military spokesperson on July 2 said, referring to the Governor’s letter to the Chief Minister on June 16.

It expressed amusement at the ‘constant threat to the Nagas’ with articles of the Indian Constitution stating that the centuries-long Naga movement for sovereign political rights and identity has been going on way before the formation of India as a nation and the existence of the Indian constitution.

Even the British logically decided to leave Naga areas outside the ambit of their constitution as excluded areas, the statement added.

The Yung Aung-led NSCN (K) further said that the Governor should add some humility to his belief that he can single handedly solve the vexed Naga political issue “where 13 former prime ministers of India have utterly failed for the past 70+ years.”

Meanwhile, it also pointed out that Naga Politicians, bureaucrats, NGO leaders and security forces in Nagaland should make up their minds as to which come first - Naga or Indian, “and accordingly as per their choice, they shall be treated either as Nagas or non Nagas.”
