Securing a remarkable 98.83% and a total mark of 593, Mhachilo Yanthan topped the 2024 HSLC examination. A student of Christian Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, Yanthan said the book ‘Atomic Habits’ by James Clear was a defining factor in her journey towards academic success. The valuable self-help book was introduced to her by her teacher last year, where she learned how to implement good habits daily and to study efficiently.

Teachers for her played an important role in her academic journey. It was through them, she could ace her exams, Yanthan told The Morung Express.

Yanthan thanked God, “without whom I would not have made it,” she said while acknowledging her parents as well for all the support.

Her one advice to students aiming for top performance, “We cannot achieve anything without hard work. Work efficiently and do not get distracted by social media. Study every day if you want to achieve success and not just when the exam is right around the corner.”

Youngest among three siblings, the topper plans to pursue her higher studies in Science stream in Nagaland. She plans to become a doctor.

Apart from studying, she loves sketching and reading novels, particularly of murder and mysteries during her leisure.

When queried on how she plans to spend the rest of her day, she said she will be going to her grandmother's house for dinner.
