‘Need to activate Village Disaster Management Authority’

Kohima, November 28 (MExN): The need to activate Village Disaster Management Authority (VDMA) as it can play a vital role in Disaster Risk Reduction at the community level was highlighted at the District Disaster Management Authority Conclave held on November 27. 

The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Conclave was conducted by Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) at NSDMA Conference Hall, Kohima. 

Speaking at the conclave held in virtual mode Kazheto Kinimi, Advisor for NSDMA & CAWD, Government of Nagaland, urged upon the DDMAs to prioritize and ensure setting up VDMAs at the village level in their respective districts. 

Advisor Kinimi made special reference of COVID-19 District Task Force headed by Deputy Commissioner as Chairman and all other frontline workers. He expressed satisfaction at the extraordinary efforts put in place by all stakeholders to contain and manage COVID-19 pandemic cases in their respective districts as per the SOPs provided by Home Ministry, Government of India and NSDMA from time to time. 

The Advisor highlighted on various activities undertaken by NSDMA through DDMAs in providing relief assistance and services to families affected by natural calamities and other disasters related.

Further, he called upon the DDMAs to have a separate Disaster Management Division with designated officers to ensure proper monitoring and response in the event of calamities and disaster in their districts. 

The conclave was attended by Home Commissioner Abhijit Sinha, Secretary to GoN Lhouchalie Viya, OSD to GoN (NSDMA) Johnny Ruangmei and officers at NSDMA, PRO to Advisor stated in a press release.
