Two detained with Red collared doves in Dimapur

Dimapur, May 7 (MExN): Two persons were detained by the Wildlife Crime Control Unit, Wildlife Division, Dimapur from Lengrijan Tuesday Bazaar during a routine market raid for alleged possession of Red collared dove (live).

A press release from the H Tokaho Kinimi), Wildlife Warden Wildlife Division Dimapur identified the duo as Rohila Ronghangpi and Meena Enghipi, both residents of Monsing Teron Village, Dillai, Assam.  The former was found in possession of 35 Red collared doves (live) while the latter had 44, it informed.

Both the accused have been detained by the Wildlife Crime Control Unit, Wildlife Division, Dimapur and will be dealt with as per relevant section of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, the release said.

The Warden further informed the general public abstain from buying, dealing or selling of wild animals, birds, bushmeat, wildlife articles or trophies etc.

Further, he highlighted that content creating on hunting or trapping of wild animals and birds in social media as well as displaying or sharing any wildlife items through social media platforms is a serious offence and invites punishment under Wild Life Protection Act, 1972. 

“A dedicated team of Wildlife Crime Control Unit is on a vigil 24x7 and defaulters will be strictly dealt with as per the law,” the Warden added.
