New book explores Mokokchung's music scene from the Swinging Sixties and Beyond

A book titled “Mokokchung - the Swinging Sixties and Beyond” co-authored by IL Aier and Limawati Longchar was formally released today by noted senior citizen MB Longkumer. 

Aier, a retired professor of sociology at NEHU Shillong and Longchar, retired director of IPR Nagaland, shares in the book memoirs of their experiences in the music scene in Mokokchung, which they witnessed firsthand during their formative years.

The book is also a chronological documentation of the history of music and its impact on the youth, society and culture of Mokokchung which was then a small but vibrant town. 

Accounts of the first bands and music artistes from the early 1960s to the present day Mokokchung form the heart of the book, complemented by neatly presented nostalgic pictures from the past.

While speaking at the book release function which was chaired by Rev Ponen Longchar, Longchar said that the release of the book was delayed owing to the COVID19 pandemic and regretted that his co-author - Aier could not make his way from Shillong. He also hinted at the possible publication of a second and revised edition of the book. 

Meanwhile, MB Longkumer who released the book congratulated the coauthors for their work and complimented them by adding that although Mokokchung has produced many intellectuals and scholars, the coauthors were the first to “write a book on Mokokchung.”  

The book was released in the presence of family, friends and contemporaries of the authors at The Restaurant, Arkong Ward, Mokokchung. 

Priced at Rs. 500 the book will be available in Dimapur at BlackBerry’s showroom, in Kohima at Woodland Handicraft, Made in Nagaland, and Bible House.
