The 315-meters sunken areas  along National Highway-39 have been completely washed off by landslides  following heavy rainfall. More than 400 trucks carrying essential commodities were stranded along the sinking area at the time of  filing  this  report. The 315-meters (BRO’s report) of the sinking area was pushed down with mud as more than 50 meters of land gave away last night. Fresh passage-cutting which began two days ago were touching 50 meters till the time of filing this   report.

The passage will take around 5-6 days more depending on weather conditions, official sources said. The Peducha diversion being used by trucks is also reported to be in a pathetic condition as the bridge is very weak to be supporting trucks carrying essential commodities.

Speaking to this correspondent, Commissioner Secretary Temjen Toy informed that the Government of Nagaland is aware about heavy trucks plying over  the weak bridge at Peducha diversion. Heavy, loaded trucks will not be allowed to ply for some few days, he said. For the time-being, passenger vehicles will be given preference, he said. Toy suggested that vehicles take the Niuland road to reach Zadima. Truck  drivers  were however declining  to take the Peducha diversion due  to  poor  road  conditions.
