PCAN stand by NU’s decision on offline exams

Dimapur, November 27 (MExN): The Private Colleges Association Nagaland (PCAN) on Saturday endorsed the Nagaland University’s schedule to conduct the semester examinations through the offline mode, stating that it is in the interest of all the stakeholders.

Dismayed by the recent unexpected protests by some “misguided students,” the PCAN through its President Vezuhu Keyho issued a press release, stating that “The launch of agitation at this point is unwarranted and we do not agree with their attempt to pressure the University through public demonstrations to conduct the examinations through online mode.”

Stating that online classes and examinations which were adopted as extraordinary measures during an extraordinary situation when the pandemic brought disruption to the academic schedule, cannot become the norm, the PCAN emphasised that “The demand for online examination on the argument of ‘what began online must end online,’ is a false equivalence, and is not reflective of matured reasoning.” This, it said, would “compromise quality, devalue merit and sacrifices the very essence of quality education at the altar of convenience.”

Postponing the examinations will result in delay of the declaration of the VI Semester results, which will be disadvantageous to students who wish to apply for admission into PG and allied courses in quality educational institutions, the PCAN also underscored.

Further, the PCAN stated that it has steadfastly stood for quality education since its inception, as the quality and pace of the State’s development and progress of its society, depends a large extent to the pool of quality human resources. “Quality education is a key component for the desired progress. PCAN therefore, is deeply concerned and vigilant about the issue of quality education,” it stated while adding that it “fully endorses offline examinations and in the time frame of the present routine notified by NU.”

“This we believe is in the interest of all the stakeholders, amongst whom the students are the main section,” it added.
