DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 6 (MExN): The Pochury Students’ Union observed the 63rd Pochury Black Day at Freedom Park Matikhrü, Phek. 

Speaking at the event, Kenneth, Executive Member, Naga People’s Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) urged upon the gathering for passing down of the unique history from generation to generation. He reiterated the Plebiscite of 1950 for self-determination for making it into a reality. He also stated that the supreme sacrifices done by the villagers of Matikhrü have to be acknowledged by every Nagas.

Heiko Kent, Secretary Finance on behalf of Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) conveyed the solidarity message. “The Naga Students’ Federation stands in solemn remembrance of all the costly sacrifices made in the odyssey of the Naga struggle for self-determination. In remembering September 6, 1960, we are filled with deep reverence as we offer our humble homage to the visionary leaders and the heroes of the past, who have suffered and laid down their lives at the hands of the Indian Armed Forces and whose sacrifices and unwavering determination have bestowed upon us the legacy of a sovereign Naga nation. The Federation once again reaffirms our right to self-determination which is justified on account of our unique history, culture and political goals as declared to the world on August 14, 1947, when the Nagas declared ourselves free from any imperialistic forces,” the message read. 

Speaking on the significance of the day, Müphatho Nyuthe, President PSU recalled the horrific incidents of 1960s and urged all the Naga freedom fighters to acknowledge the supreme sacrifices made by the people of Pochury and called upon every Naga political groups to come as one as we have one common aspiration and goal. He also termed it as a proud moment for the Pochury people for having facing the brunt from our aggressors for the cause of Naga nation.
