Rejoinder to Sukhalu Descendents Claim on Sukhalu Village

The territory of Sanphure under the headman ship of Kulemong, Langtpakyu, Tethekyu and Zingthe spread far and wide. And as it is natural with the Nagas, villages were established only after prior permission and acceding to the words of those elders.

Like that of others, Sukhalu also approached Kulemong, the Headman of Sanphure to establish a village as the land where he wants to establish his village falls under Sanphure territory. Kulemong refused and did not let Sukhalu to establish a village in his territory. After persuading humbly for 10 days to Kulemong vowing to follow the traditional norms of Sanphure, Kulemong along with Langtpakyu, Tethekyu and Zingthe permitted Sukhalu to establish a village under Sanphure
territory.

Only after getting permission from Kulemong and his contemporary to establish a village in Sanphure territory, Sukhalu left to his native village and brought his family and other members to establish a village latter.

In due course of time after he was allowed to establish a village in Sanphure territory, Sukhalu started his high handedness on the livestock and property of the neighboring villages. This caused misunderstandings between Sukhalu and the Sanphures in the 10th years of Sukhalu stay in Sanphure territory. Due to this, misunderstandings arose between the owner (Sanphure) and the tenant (Sukhalu). Because of this, he (Sukhalu) was killed and the rest of the villagers who were staying with him fled to other places.

Therefore, tenant (Sukhalu) becoming land owner and the claim of Sukhalu descendents establishment of village in Sanphure territory by Sukhalu with power and might is a sheer distortion of history.

The press statement of the USLB in the media regarding Sukhalu is a fact and if needed, we (the Sanphure) are ready to take up Naga customary law for
final settlement.
