Teachers are change agents

Bendang Imsong

On this auspicious day, I convey my best wishes to all the teachers in Nagaland, and across the Nation/Globe. The teaching profession is a mission and therefore teachers have a missionary zeal to build leaders of today. Qualifying to teach may be easy but to become a good teacher requires skill set, and training. Much has been said that a good teacher makes learning enjoyable. The quality of a good teacher also includes integrity, creativity, and innovativeness, sense of humor, continuous learning, empathy, kindness, and right attitudes towards life.

A teacher with high educational qualifications and training does not necessarily make a good teacher, but the one who passionately utilizes his/her learning towards students’ personal learning/development and healthy community living makes stand out among the crowd.

Relationship matters too. A good relationship among the teachers, students, parents, and stakeholders is key to creating an enabling learning environment. At the same time head of a school or an institution being good an organizer, administrator, and a democratic will build contributes to building trust, better teaching-learning outcomes.

"In their daily lives, the men and women who teach our children fulfill the promise of a nation that's
always looking forward, that believes each generation has a responsibility to help the next in building
this great country of ours and making the world a better place. This is a profession where you have the
potential to make more of a difference than just about anything you can go into. So teachers deserve
more than just our gratitude — they deserve our full support.” Barak Obama
