Violence contradicts values of Naga reconciliation

Don’t jeopardize hard-earned reconciliation process, FNR to Naga groups

Dimapur, October 17 (MExN): The Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) has expressed strong displeasure and concern over the October 14 incident where one Khapur of the GPRN/NSCN was assaulted by a military officer of the NSCN/GPRN. To thwart this incident from spiraling into violence, the FNR has appealed to the highest level of signatories of the Covenant of Reconciliation to take immediate steps to prevent any actions that may jeopardize the hard-earned reconciliation process.

While keeping in mind the commitment and progress made in the Naga Reconciliation process through the historic Highest Level Meeting, the FNR stated that “the temperament of the October 14 incident has undermined the spirit of the reconciliation” and lamented that such incidents will only “shake the foundations of trust and confidence the political groups are beginning to build on each other”. The FNR has therefore requested the concerned authorities of NSCN/GPRN to initiate investigation of the incident.

In the same manner the FNR also expressed that it was deeply disturbed and concerned by the October 6 incident at Phor village wherein a military commander of the GPRN/NSCN reportedly shot a 49 year old woman and assaulted village youths. “Such incidents isolate popular support from the Naga movement and therefore we appeal to the concerned authorities of the GPRN/NSCN to initiate investigation into the incident”, stated the FNR in a press note.

Stating that both the October 6 and October 14 incidents are instances of violence which contradicts the values of Naga Reconciliation, the FNR pointed out that it was essential

that such acts of violence no longer become a part of the future. “Therefore, once again in the greater interest of the Naga Reconciliation process, the Forum for Naga Reconciliation calls upon the signatories of the Naga Reconciliation to demonstrate their commitment to Naga Reconciliation in both letter and spirit so that good will prevail despite all odds”.

Tangkhul Hoho flays

Dimapur, October 17 (MExN): Tangkhul Hoho Nagaland (THN) has expressed pain over the 14th October 2010 incident in which one Ahoshe Khapur of NSCN/GPRN was physically assaulted by cadres of the NSCN (IM). A press note from the Tangkhul Hoho Nagaland stated that any “form of violence is highly deplorable in view of the fact that the parties concerned have entered into covenant to shun violence which is also the desire of Naga people”. “Therefore, Tangkhul Hoho Nagaland is deadly against any form of violence which is detrimental to the hard earned Naga reconciliation process at this juncture”, stated the press note issued by THN President S. Aring and Secretary K. Aning Zimik.

Stating that no amount of justification that may exist can restore the damage already done, the THN urged the NSCN (IM) higher authorities to enquire into the matter and deliver justice. It also prayed for speedy recovery of the injured person.

The Tangkhul Hoho Nagaland also felt that any untoward incidents that may arise amongst different Naga National Workers, “civilians should not be dragged into communal line of feeling which will jeopardize the relationship and co-existence of different Naga communities”. The Tangkhul Hoho Nagaland once again reiterated its whole hearted support to the FNR and urged upon the Naga national Workers to abide by the covenant and avoid all forms of violence so as to achieve reconciliation at the earliest.

WSKH condemns

Dimapur, October 17 (MExN): The Western Sumi Kukami Hoho (WSKH) has strongly condemned the torture of one Ahoshe ‘khapur’ of GPRN/NSCN, by one Yarteo Tangkhul ‘Lt. Col’ of NSCN (I-M) on October 14 at Chumukedima. “It is very unfortunate to note that such disturbing incident is taking place in the society when all groups of Naga National workers, with initiative from FNR and various Hoho, have committed and entered into an agreement to shun violence”, stated a press note signed by Apeto Assumi, President, WSKH. Stating that at this juncture, it was a time for all concerned to uphold the commitment to Naga reconciliation and not resort to any action that could end the reconciliation process and allow violence to take hold the Naga society, the WSKH pointed out that any group or organization resorting to such act should be held responsible for jeopardizing the hard-earned reconciliation process.

The WSKH also condemned the alleged curse and accuse on Sumi tribe in particular, as it would only lead to disunity among Naga people. “Our Naga society and brotherhood can never prosper to achieve our dream as long as we are in the grip of violence. Therefore it is the sincere appeal of the Hoho to the signatories of the Naga Reconciliation to ensure that such kind of incidents is not repeated in the future”, the press note appealed.
